On the eve of the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni held a bilateral meeting with the President of the Federal Republic of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. This was announced in a press release from Palazzo Chigi, explaining that 'at the bilateral level, the common will to continue working to strengthen the partnership between Rome and Brasilia was manifested, identifying the priority sectors on which to focus attention, starting with the economic and trade sectors, also taking advantage of the collaboration of the historic presence of the large Italian community in Brazil. In this sphere, important opportunities in the energy and infrastructure development sectors were highlighted'.
During the meeting, the two leaders discussed the opportunity to conclude a new Action Plan of the Italy-Brazil Strategic Partnership for the five-year period 2025-2030.
In congratulating the work carried out by the Brazilian Presidency, the communiqué explained, the Prime Minister 'expressed her appreciation for the synergy and continuity ensured by the two Presidencies, the Italian G7 Presidency and the Brazilian G20 Presidency, sanctioned by the shared thematic priorities addressed, starting with development, energy transition and food security'.

Meloni then recalled 'that Italian companies intend to invest EUR 40 billion in Brazil and spoke of updating the partnership and economic cooperation agreements between the two countries'.
