G7: Macron pledges support for Kyiv and a commitment to step up pressure on Moscow

"At G7 level, we have decided to provide greater support to Ukraine. Firstly, so that it can defend itself against missile and drone attacks. Secondly, so that it has the capacity to project its power deep into its own territory and thus defend itself, even in the event of attacks from further afield. We have also decided, together, in the spirit of unity within this G7, to increase the pressure on Russia, particularly with regard to the oil and gas resources that Russia uses to finance its war effort. I therefore believe I can say that this G7 summit marks a moment of strategic reawakening in which, together – the United States, Japan, Canada and the European nations – we have decided to act in concert alongside Ukraine to ultimately defend our unity, the values in which we believe and the current situation.” So said French President Emmanuel Macron in a video posted on social media.
