Gallipoli: 17-year-old attacked following an argument in a nightclub has been discharged from hospital

The condition of the 17-year-old from the province of Potenza, who was on holiday in Salento and was reportedly attacked last night outside a well-known nightclub in Gallipoli following an argument, has turned out to be less serious than initially thought. The boy was taken to the A&E department at Lecce Hospital, where, following a series of tests, he was discharged. According to reports from several witnesses, as he left the nightclub, the young man first approached the security guards and then the first-aid post located outside, complaining of pain in his side after being struck whilst dancing. He was allowed to leave as his condition did not appear to be serious, and the medical staff advised him that, should he experience any pain the following day, he should go to A&E and file a police report. Shortly afterwards, however, the 17-year-old reportedly told others that he was feeling unwell and had been struck violently and deliberately by someone whilst dancing. He then asked to be taken by ambulance to hospital where, after doctors had carried out tests, he was discharged. The Carabinieri are investigating the incident and will review the CCTV footage to piece together what happened.
