Artificial intelligence as a tool for anti-mafia controls for the Milan-Cortina 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The innovation, one of the first in Europe, brings together a database and a web application with all the information on companies awarded works and construction sites.
These are the IT applications presented at the table set up at the Anti-Mafia Prevention Structure of the Ministry of the Interior together with the Infrastructure Company Milan-Cortina 2026, with the participation of the Anti-Mafia Investigative Directorate, the Central Interforce Group set up at the Department of Public Security, and the Department for Planning and Coordination of Economic Policy at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers. This digital support will be extended to other contracting stations operating in the territories of Veneto and Lombardy, which are affected by the Games. The data set is intended to ensure the flow of information to the Anti-Mafia Prevention Structure of the Ministry of the Interior and other Supervisory Authorities.
The project came about thanks to the legality framework protocol signed last August by the director of the Structure, Prefect Paolo Canaparo, and Simico's CEO and extraordinary commissioner, Fabio Massimo Saldini. In order to optimise the usability of the data, Simico has also developed a web application, which can be consulted from any fixed or mobile device, integrating advanced artificial intelligence systems to ensure simple and immediate access to the data. One of the distinctive features of the platform is that it highlights information according to the user's specific interests. In practice, by querying the application, relevant data will be brought to the foreground, saving time and improving decision-making and control processes. A comprehensive history functionality will allow users to explore the activities of each site, in each geographical area, with clickable entries indicating detailed data, documents, tables and related charts. Built-in notifications will update control activities in real time.
The aim of the project developed at the initiative of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers is that the digital system can be further deepened and applied to all major infrastructure projects so that it becomes good practice in public administration.
