The price of gas for vulnerable customers fell by 0.9% in April compared to the previous month. This was announced by the Authority for Energy, Networks and Environment in its monthly update on the vulnerability protection service. As is well known, the gas price component to cover supply costs (CMEM,m), applied to customers in the vulnerability protection service, is updated by Arera as a monthly average of the price on the Italian wholesale market (the PSV day ahead) and published within the first 2 working days of the month following the reference month.

The drop compared to March

.

In April, which saw wholesale quotations rise compared to those recorded in March, the price of gas raw material alone (CMEM,m), for customers in the vulnerability protection service, was 30.49 €/MWh*. For April, therefore, the reference gas price for the new type1 customer is 100.54 eurocents per cubic metre (-0.9% compared to March), including taxes, due to the reduction from 1 April 2024 of the values of the supply risk coverage component (CCR), the retail marketing component (QVD) and the transport component (QT), which offset the increase in the price of gas to cover supply costs.

The end of greater protection in gas as of January

It should be noted that as of January, the gas protection service has been replaced by the vulnerability protection service, intended only for vulnerable domestic customers. Therefore, from January 2024, the Authority, with the same timing and modalities as in previous months, will publish on its website the gas price component to cover supply costs applied to customers of the vulnerability protection service.

Expenditure details

.

In detail, the reference price is broken down as follows: 1) the expenditure for natural gas matter at 36.19 eurocents (equal to 36% of the total bill) for procurement and related activities, plus 6.15 eurocents (6.1% of the total bill) for retail sales; 2) expenditure for transport and meter management at 24.53 eurocents (24.4% of the total bill) for distribution, metering, transport, distribution equalisation and quality services; 3) expenditure for system charges of 2.95 eurocents (2.9% of the total bill) .
