"The European Council calls for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the unconditional release of all hostages, leading to a permanent end to hostilities. It deplores the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, the unacceptable number of civilian casualties and the levels of starvation. It calls on Israel to completely lift the blockade on Gaza'. This is what is stated in the paragraph on the Middle East in the conclusions of the EU summit, which has just been approved. The 27 "take note" of High Representative Kaja Kallas' report and invite the Council to continue discussions in July, taking into account the evolution of the situation on the ground.
Israel announced the suspension of aid deliveries to Gaza after ultra-right-wing minister Bezalel Smotrich threatened to resign from the government if measures were not taken to prevent aid from reaching Hamas. This was reported by a source in Channel 12, quoted by the Times of Israel.
The news came shortly after the prime minister's office announced that Benyamin Netanyahu had ordered the IDF to draw up a plan in 48 hours to prevent Hamas from stealing the aid. The suspension of aid delivery will remain in place until the army's plan is presented, the source added.
Ghf: aid distributed to Gaza today, hope stop is temporary
The interim executive director of the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (Ghf), John Acree, says his organisation was the only one authorised by Israel to distribute aid in the Strip today, after a partial halt ordered by the Tel Aviv government. "Our hope is that this is a temporary pause and that all other humanitarian organisations will soon be able to resume distribution in the region," Acree said in a note, "however, it is critical that aid is distributed responsibly, directly to the people who need it." Ghf reported that it distributed 38,880 boxes of food at three of its locations today. The Times of Israel reported this.
Gaza foundation asks UN to bring food to Gaza together
Gaza humanitarian foundation (Ghf) Executive Chairman Johnnie Moore wrote a letter to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres asking them to 'work together, as the time has come to address, without euphemism or delay, the structural failure of aid delivery to Gaza and to decisively correct course'.
