Israeli air strike on a house in the Al-Bureij refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip
In a post on X, the broadcaster Al Jazeera announced that its cameraman, Ahmed Washah, had been killed in an Israeli air strike on a house in the Al-Bureij refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip.
The Israeli army has confirmed that it killed Ahmed Wishah, the Al Jazeera cameraman who died in an air raid on the Bureij refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip, claiming that he was a “Hamas terrorist”. A spokesperson for the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) told AFP this, specifying that the attack had been deliberately targeted at him. Al Jazeera had previously issued a strong condemnation, describing the killing of its staff member as a “despicable violation of all international laws and norms”.
Seven dead in a block of flats in Gaza City
At least seven Palestinians were killed and others injured in the early hours of this morning when Israeli forces bombed a block of flats in Gaza City. This was reported by the Palestinian news agency Wafa, citing medical sources. Since the ceasefire agreement was declared in October last year, more than 4,000 Palestinians have been killed or injured.
Two children lost their lives in the attack, according to Palestinian health officials. The death toll is expected to rise as the rubble is cleared. No information on the number of injured was immediately available. At the scene of the attack, an Associated Press journalist saw scattered rubble and bloodstained pieces of concrete. The bodies of the two sisters, Zina, aged 4, and Lana, aged 14, were taken to the mortuary at Shifa Hospital, where they lie wrapped in white hospital bags, surrounded by family members.
“I was sitting at home. The rocket hit us without warning,” said the victims’ cousin, Mohammad Safadi, who suffered a wound to his forehead. He said that both he and his wife had been injured in the attack. “This ceasefire they’re talking about, the occupation and the negotiating team – is it really a ceasefire? We are civilians. I have never taken up arms,” added Safadi.
