At the UN Headquarters, an attempt is being made to outline the future of Gaza in a draft resolution proposed by the United States on the basis of the Trump plan. The resolution that is expected to be voted on in the coming days by the Security Council aims to define the International Stabilisation Force that will be tasked with disarming Hamas.
The text, according to Reuters, includes the green light for the Board of Peace as the transitional administration of the Strip and also for the deployment of 20,000 soldiers, authorised to 'use all necessary measures', i.e. including the use of force, to carry out the mandate.
The US also handed the text to the non-permanent members of the Security Council and some Arab countries: according to the document viewed by Reuters and the Israel Hayom media, the Stabilisation Force will work together for the security of the border areas with Israel and Egypt and with a 'new trained and selected Palestinian police force', with the aim of 'demilitarising the Strip', destroying 'military, terrorist and offensive infrastructure' and 'preventing its reconstitution', as well as permanently disarming 'non-state armed groups', such as Hamas.
According to Israel Hayom, the draft also envisages entrusting the United Nations, the Red Cross and the Red Crescent with assistance to the Strip, but does not mention Unrwa, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, accused by Israel of complicity with Hamas: 'Any organisation that has misused the assistance will be considered ineligible, neither now nor in the future', states Article 3, which effectively excludes Unrwa from Gaza's future.
But while for Gaza the word now goes to diplomacy, a new escalation is appearing on Israel's northern front. After repeated evacuation warnings to the residents of five locations in southern Lebanon (Taybeh, Tayr Debba, Aita al-Jabal, Zawtar al-Sharqiyah and Kfar Dounine), the IDF launched as many raids against "the terrorist military infrastructure of Hezbollah", accused of wanting to rearm and "rebuild its activities in the area". Earlier, an Israeli drone had also attacked 'a terrorist infrastructure' of Hezbollah in the region of Tyre, where one victim was recorded.
