Flotilla, Guardian: Greta Thunberg subjected to harsh treatment in Israeli custody. Twenty-six Italian activists returned from Israel
Environmental activist Greta Thunberg told Swedish authorities that she is being subjected to harsh treatment while in Israeli custody, after being arrested and removed from one of the Global Sumud Flotilla boats carrying aid to Gaza. The Guardian reports.
In an email sent by the Swedish Foreign Ministry to people close to Thunberg, as reported by the British newspaper that viewed the message, an official who visited the activist in prison stated that the latter was held in a bug-infested cell with too little food and water.
"The embassy was able to meet Greta," the email reads. "She reported dehydration. She received insufficient amounts of water and food. She also claimed to have developed rashes that she suspects were caused by bed bugs. She spoke of harsh treatment and said that she sat for long periods on hard surfaces'. The Swedish ministry official added: 'Another detainee reportedly told another embassy that she (Thunberg ed.) had been forced to hold up flags while photos were taken. She wondered if pictures of her had been distributed'.
The Italian legal team representing the Flotilla confirmed that the detainees were left 'for hours without food or water, until late at night', with the exception of 'a packet of crisps given to Greta and shown to the cameras'. The lawyers also reported cases of verbal and physical abuse.
Meanwhile, Israel announced the expulsion of 137 more activists of the Global Sumud Flotilla who arrived in Istanbul today on a charter flight. Among them also 26 Italians, as announced this morning by Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani. The activists were welcomed by officials and others at the airport.

Sky News: Israel supports anti-Hamas militias in Gaza, Ghf aid to them
Israel provides support to a Palestinian rebel group in Gaza with extremist ties and a history of looting humanitarian aid trucks, living in luxury thanks to supplies from the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation and smuggling money, cars and cigarettes. This was revealed by a Sky News investigation, pointing out that 'while negotiators argue over who will govern Gaza after the war ends, Israel is already outlining a new reality on the ground'. In recent weeks, several tribal militias have declared allegiance to Yasser Abu Shabab, the leader of a former looting gang that now calls itself the 'Popular Forces', which is proposing itself as the future government of Gaza.
Sky's Data and Forensics Unit has been tracking Yasser Abu Shabab and his men for months, tracing their movements, vehicles, weapons and identities: the investigation found that his militia receives food from the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, despite the declared impartiality of the US-funded humanitarian organisation. And in exclusive interviews with Sky News, one of Yasser Abu Shabab's senior commanders and an IDF soldier serving on the Gaza border detailed how Israel allows them to smuggle money, weapons and cars into Gaza. According to the experts, Israel's support for such groups aims at 'divide and rule' in an anti-Hamas perspective, and to ensure the maintenance of a certain level of control over Gaza, whatever its future may be.
