The Palestinian Civil Defence has reportedat least 28 dead after Israeli attacks near the European hospital in Khan Yunis, southern Gaza Strip. "So far 28 dead people have been extracted from the area," Civil Defence spokesman Mahmoud Bassal told AFP, citing local sources. "According to reports from residents and neighbours, more than 20 people are still missing in the house of the al-Afghani family," near the hospital, he said.

"Israeli warplanes," reports a correspondent of the Palestinian Wafa agency, "carried out heavy bombardment around the hospital, causing civilian casualties, including deaths and injuries, and others missing. The hospital was also damaged in the attacks'. The aim of the raid launched this afternoon by the Israeli army (IDF) on the hospital in the south of the Gaza Strip was to target Hamas leader Mohammad Sinwar, the younger brother of former Hamas leader in Gaza, Yahya Sinwar. Israeli defence sources told the Times of Israel. The IDF claimed to have targeted Hamas operatives in an underground command centre beneath the Khan Younis medical centre.

Last night, the IDF had already struck another hospital in the Strip, the Nasser in Khan Yunis, claiming to have targeted a Hamas command centre located inside the facility. According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the site was used to plan attacks against Israeli civilians and army troops. The attack marked the end of a brief truce following the release of the Israeli-American hostage Edan Alexander, which took place yesterday on the eve of President Donald Trump.

Alexander will not be able to travel to Qatar to meet Trump. The family, in a statement released byChannel 12 News, explained that his health condition requires rest and a minimum four-day stay in hospital. The meeting with Trump is postponed until a later date in the US. Meanwhile, a telephone conversation between the two is expected in the coming hours.

In the bombing of the hospital, Al Jazeera reports, the Palestinian journalist, Hassan Eslaih, who had been admitted to the burns ward of the facility after an earlier raid had hit a media tent near the same hospital, was killed. The Israeli authorities have not released details of civilian casualties in the latest operation.

The IDF accuses Hamas of continuing to use civilian infrastructure as a cover for its operations, claiming that "senior officials of the Islamist group hide among patients and health personnel", exploiting the population as a human shield.

The UN accuses Israel of using hunger in the Gaza Strip as"a weapon of war". Raising the accusation is the number one of Unrwa, the agency that assists Palestinian refugees and civilians, interviewed on a visit to London by the BBC. "I have no more words to describe the misery and tragedy of the people of Gaza, who have not received any aid for two months," Lazzarini said. "Hunger is rampant, people are at the end of their tether, we can expect that in the coming weeks people will die more from lack of food than from bombings," he added, evoking a stop to "humanitarian aid being used as a weapon of war".

Meanwhile, Israel announced a new system for the distribution of humanitarian aid to Gaza, aimed at preventing its diversion by Hamas. The plan envisages the creation of a 'humanitarian zone' concentrated in the south of the Strip, near Rafah, where the entire Gazawi population - over two million people - will be gradually relocated and subjected to military controls. Those who receive humanitarian aid in this zone will not be able to return to the areas outside the new enclave, according to a report by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the Knesset.

To coordinate the operation, Israel set up a new entity, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, in charge of logistics and monitoring. According to local analysts, the plan risks turning the humanitarian crisis into a large-scale displacement crisis, with new regional implications.

US hostage envoy Adam Boehler visiting the hostage square in Tel Aviv along with Trump administration Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff said: 'We are committed to the return of all hostages. There is a chance for a great deal, a better chance than before. The resumption of the war depends on Israel. Hamas knows it can conclude a deal when it wants to'.

The US special envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, and the US hostage envoy, Adam Boehler, told the families of hostages still held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip today that they believe there is a "real chance" of progress in negotiations for an agreement, otherwise they "would not be going to Doha". This was reported by the Forum of Hostage Families, which had a two-hour meeting with American representatives in Tel Aviv today.

Witkoff "assured the families that if he and Boehler did not believe that there was a real chance of progress in the negotiations, they would not go to Doha," the Forum said, adding in the note reported by Israeli media that the two envoys had "stressed their personal commitment to the release of all 58 remaining hostages, both those alive and dead."

"Witkoff emphasised that they will accept nothing less than the return of everyone, because that is the President's mission," added the Forum, according to which the Middle East envoy "emphasised that everyone would prefer a diplomatic solution and noted that most of the survivors of captivity have been released through diplomatic channels".

Meanwhile, upon arriving in Riyadh, President Trump was greeted by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. After official greetings, the two were entertained in an airport lounge, seated on elegant purple chairs with gold details, under portraits of the royal family. The tycoon is accompanied by Secretaries Marco Rubio (State), Pete Hegseth (Defence), Howard Lutnick (Commerce) and Chris Wright (Energy).Elon Musk is also in Saudi Arabia. This is reported by CNN, citing White House sources who point out that the Tesla and SpaceX patron did not arrive on Air Force One. Musk is expected to be among the key players at the investment forum between the US and Saudi Arabia. According to a Saudi official, questioned by CNN, he will participate as a keynote speaker at the event scheduled for this evening.
