Gaza, WHO suspends medical evacuations
This was announced by the Director General of the Organisation, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, after the killing of a staff member
On Tuesday, 7 April, the World Health Organisation (WHO) suspended medical evacuations of patients from the Gaza Strip after the killing of a staff member. Two other WHO members were present at the scene of the incident and were unharmed.
Medical evacuations suspended until further notice
"Following the incident, the WHO has suspended the medical evacuation of patients from Gaza via Rafah to Egypt scheduled for today. Medical evacuations will remain suspended until further notice," the organisation's director-general, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, wrote in a post on X.
New attacks on the Strip
Meanwhile, Israeli army attacks in Gaza continue. On Sunday, 5 April, according to the Israeli news site Ynet, at least ten people were killed and dozens wounded in an IDF attack east of the Al-Mawasi refugee camp in the central part of the Gaza Strip.
According to the Hamas-controlled Gaza Ministry of Health, the total number of deaths in the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the conflict on 7 October 2023 has exceeded 72,000, with over 171,000 people injured.
