"Perhaps for the first time, after two years of a dramatic conflict and immense suffering, there is a glimmer of peace today. Of course, it is not the case to harbour premature illusions'. Vice-Premier and Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani spoke this morning in the Chamber of Deputies on the Gaza crisis. Other ministers were also present in the chamber. In the afternoon it was his turn to speak in the Senate.
With 182 votes in favour, 101 abstentions and no votes against, the House approved the majority resolution and Action to support the 'peace initiative put in place by the US' for Gaza. A total of five resolutions were tabled: two by the majority, including a short one only on support for the peace plan proposed by the US, one by Iv, one by Pd-M5s-Avs, one by Più Europa. Azione, with Matteo Richetti, signed the short majority resolution.
The Senate also approved the two majority resolutions after Minister Tajani's communications on Gaza. It was voted by a show of hands. The shorter resolution with only support for Trump's peace plan, also signed by Calenda (Action), was voted for by the centre-right and Iv, while Pd, M5s and Avs abstained. The second passed with only the votes of the centre-right
The government, in the voice of the minister, gave a favourable opinion to the two resolutions on Gaza by the majority and that of Iv in full. A favourable opinion was also given to that of Più Europa except for one point, an unfavourable opinion to that of Pd-M5s-Avs except for one point in which an amendment was requested anyway.
House passes Iv and More Europe resolutions on Gaza
The Chamber of Deputies, by a majority, rejected the Pd-M5s-Avs motion on Gaza and the recognition of the state of Palestine, while it approved the Iv motions and most of the commitments contained in the Più Europa resolution. Iv commits the government to "work" for the "Blair plan for Gaza", the "two peoples and two states" solution and "respect for the constitutional rights of Italian citizens" on board the Flotilla. The one from Più Europa also focuses on support for the Trump plan and the future of reconstruction in the Gaza Strip.
