Gaza, Trump plan: ok from von der Leyen, Arab countries and PNA. IDF: Hamas finances the Flotilla
Islamic Jihad, a Palestinian militant group fighting alongside Hamas in Gaza, strongly criticised the plan
Within hours of the announcement of the Trump plan for Gaza in Washington come the reactions of Arab and Muslim countries, Palestinian and Israeli actors, and European leaders. Saudi Arabia, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Pakistan, Turkey, Qatar and Egypt issued a joint statement welcoming Trump's efforts to end the war in Gaza, saying they are ready to "cooperate positively" with the US to finalise the agreement and ensure its implementation. Sky News reports. "The foreign ministers welcome Trump's announcement on the proposal to end the war, rebuild Gaza, prevent the displacement of the Palestinian people and promote a peace, as well as his announcement that he will not allow the annexation of the West Bank."
ThePalestinian National Authority welcomed President Trump's 'sincere and determined efforts' following his announcement of a plan to end the war in Gaza. In a statement, it said it 'welcomes President Donald J. Trump's sincere and determined efforts to end the war in Gaza and affirms its confidence in his ability to find a path to peace'.
TheIslamic Jihad, a Palestinian militant group fighting alongside Hamas in Gaza, harshly criticised Trump's plan to end the war, saying it would fuel further aggression against the Palestinians. "It is a recipe for continued aggression against the Palestinian people. In this way, Israel is attempting, through the US, to impose what it failed to achieve with the war," the group said in a statement. "Therefore, we consider the American-Israeli declaration a formula for setting the region on fire."
A diplomatic source told the Qatari broadcaster Al Jazeera that Qatar and Egypt conveyed Trump's plan for the Gaza Strip to the Hamas negotiating delegation. The delegation promised the mediators to 'study the proposal responsibly'. Senior Hamas official Muhammad Mardawi said in an interview with the Qatari channel Al Jazeera that the peace plan for Gaza presented by Trump 'leans towards the Israeli perspective. It is close to what Netanyahu insists on to continue the war,' he said. However, 'we must receive this plan in written and clear form before we respond. The plan must be in the hands of Hamas and the Palestinian organisations,' he stressed, reiterating that neither Hamas nor any Palestinian has seen it yet.
There is no shortage of voices against the Trump plan in Israel. Donald Trump's plan to end the war in Gaza is "a resounding diplomatic failure" for Israel, according to Bezalel Smotrich, Israel's far-right minister who, listing several provisions of the 20-point plan, called it "an indigestible concoction." In a post on X, Smotrich called the plan 'a resounding diplomatic failure, a turning a blind eye and a turning away from all the lessons of 7 October', referring to the Hamas attack in 2023, which triggered the Gaza war. "In my opinion, it will also end in tears. Our children will be forced to fight again in Gaza," he added
