The Chinese company Geely, the multinational that controls Polestar, Volvo Lotus and Zeekr but is also the majority shareholder of Smart and the first investor in Mercedes-Benz, landed in Italy in July thanks to a distribution agreement with Jameel Motors. Now it is about to start operations and from October the first model, the electric suv EX5, will be available at dealers in the national network.

The battery-powered car will be launched at a list price starting at around 31,000 euros and will be joined by the Starray EM-i SUV equipped with Super Hybrid technology.

Geely's well-established experience in the European market gives it an insight into the styling requirements and needs of customers on the old continent. In fact, the EX5 is distinguished by a styling with clean lines that could meet European tastes, albeit with the inevitable group and country system synergies such as the retractable handles.

Developed on the GEA platform, the Geely EX5 is equipped with the most advanced technologies, from the 60.22 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery, which has achieved high standards of durability and recharging cycles, to the Geea 3.0 electrical architecture and Flyme, the on-board operating system. This software is based on the android automotive, in the open source variant, does not offer Google services such as maps and relies on an exclusively touch user interfaceThe new electric suv boasts a 160 kW and 320 Nm permanent magnet synchronous electric motor which, depending on the set-up, achieves a maximum range of 430 km and consumption of between 15.8 and 16 kWh/100 km.

Suitable for the city as well as for travelling places, the Geely EX5 is 6,615 mm long, 1,901 mm wide, 1,670 mm high and has a wheelbase of 2,750 mm. Load capacity ranges from a minimum of 461 litres to a maximum of 1,877 litres. Five body colours are available and the wheels are 18" for the Pro version and 19" for the top of the range, the Launch Edition.

Inside the cabin, the attention to detail and the quality of the materials used are striking. The driver has a 10.2-inch digital dashboard with clear information in front of him, while in the centre of the dashboard is a 15.4-inch touchscreen that provides access to all the car's functions.

In the centre tunnel, there are several storage compartments and the wireless charging slot for smartphones, the latter being rather large and allowing even larger devices to be charged.

Now making its Italian market debut, the Geely EX5 is offered in Launch Edition trim at the price of the Pro with a six-year warranty and eight years on the battery.

Geely is also investing in Italy in terms of service; in fact, the first spare parts depot has been set up in Novara and technicians are working to create a European one.

There are currently 15 (confirmed) dealers in Italy and within the next 18 months the goal is to reach 100 outlets.
