Journalist Giancarlo Santalmassi passed away last night. He was 83 years old and was hospitalised at the Quisisana clinic in Rome.

Born in Rome, he began his career in the early 1960s working for the weekly Panorama. He joined RAI in 1961, worked at Tg2 and was the first journalist to present the news, as well as several in-depth programmes. He then directed Radio Rai, for which he founded and hosted the programme Zapping. He also directed Radio24 from 2005 to 2008, the Sole 24 Ore broadcaster, for which he hosted the talk show Viva Voce. He was then founder, director and columnist of the online commentary site InPiù from 2013.
