Gianmarco Mazzi appointed Minister of Tourism. Here is who he is

Gianmarco Mazzi is the new Minister of Tourism. The deputy of Fratelli d'Italia and undersecretary at the Ministry of Culture was sworn in at the Quirinale. Also at the Colle was Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who quickly resolved the replacement of Daniela Santanchè who, at the request of the Prime Minister herself, had resigned from the ministry on 25 March. Mazzi's name was not among those circulating for Santanchè's succession, for which the promotion of Gianluca Caramanna, another Fdi deputy and Santanchè's advisor, was initially hypothesised. While waiting for the new minister to be chosen Meloni had taken over the interim.
"Tourism is a world full of charm and great professionalism that requires careful attention because it represents a pillar of the Italian economy. I am honoured by this appointment and I thank the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister for the trust they have placed in me,' said the new minister in his first statement after being sworn in.
From the National Singers to the Sanremo Festival
Veronese, 66 years old on 1 July next, a law graduate from the University of his hometown, Mazzi is among the promoters of the Italian national singers and since the 1980s has had various collaborations with big names in Italia music, from the Pooh to Gianni Morandi, from Lucio Dalla and Caterina Caselli, to Francesco Baccini, whose manager he was for some ten years. Since 1992 he has looked after the artistic and TV activities of Adriano Celentano and, as a TV producer, he has been in charge of various productions for Rai1 and Canale 5, including "Francamente me ne infischio" and "Rockpolitik".
After a stint as communications director for CGD East West, a label of the Time Warner group, Mazzi has also been involved in the organisation of the Sanremo Festival since July 2003, serving as artistic director of the song festival for six editions. Over the years, he has also worked for Riccardo Cocciante and Dario Fo, Zucchero and Mogol.
He then curated the Italian edition of the talent show 'The Voice' for Rai2 and worked on the organisation of the opening ceremony of Expo 2015 in Piazza Duomo, Milan. In his CV, from 2017 to 2022, also the roles of artistic director and managing director of the Arena di Verona.
