Giorgetti: 'Employers do their part, increase wages'

"I have no political objection, I have a law that I have to enforce, as I have enforced it on others I will enforce it on them. There is a law and it applies to everyone'. This is how the Minister of the Economy, Giancarlo Girogetti, responds to a question on possible 'political objections' to a eventual merger between Banco Bpm and Crèdit Agricole, entering the Senate. And to the question whether he also hypothesised a use of golden power: 'I'm referring to the law, that one there'.

"Regarding salaries, in the public sector we have recovered contracts that were at a standstill, in a crazy backlog, from schools to the armed forces. We are renegotiating contracts to keep up. The invitation I feel like making is for the private employers to also do their part and recognise salary increases for workers'. So said Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti, in the Senate chamber on the bipartisan resolution on the Dpfp.

"The IMF lives in a comfort zone, it does not measure itself against the people and can afford to impart recipes that historically have not always worked. It is, however, a useful stimulus, also because it is nice in reality to exceed the IMF's always ultra-prudent forecasts in terms of growth,' Giorgetti explained in reply at Palazzo Madama.

"It is not that I walk around with the trophy of the 80-point spread. I invite everyone to think about the fact that if it had remained at 250 as it was at the beginning of the parliamentary term, how much more interest would we have spent on the budget and less room for households and businesses? This is the result, which benefits not the government but all Italians'.

"The concept of sailing is dear to me. We could have used a motor boat stocked with superbonuses at full throttle and we would have gone very fast; we could have relied on a nice sailboat but these days, with the storms that are looming, perhaps it would not have guaranteed it; we decided to go ahead with a rowing boat, it is hard work but it is also green and I think we will all be happy'.
