Giorgetti sees Georgieva, praises commitment to consolidation. Then meets the rating agencies

"During a meeting between Minister Giorgetti and the director general of the FMI Kristalina Georgieva, Italy received praise for its commitment to pursuing fiscal consolidation while promoting economic growth." This was stated in a tweet from the Treasury Ministry.

Between Giorgetti and Georgieva, there was a clarification on the judgments on the Italian manoeuvre expressed by a Fund manager on the eve of the meeting. This was learnt from Treasury sources.

The meeting with Georgieva came after statements by a head of the Europe Department of the Monetary Fund, who on the eve of the meeting, when presenting the region's report, described Italy's economic manoeuvre as unambitious in light of the country's high level of debt.
