Glovo and Deliveroo: delivery riders on strike in Florence: ‘Ever-lower wages’

Glovo and Deliveroo riders in Florence are downing tools. The workers have called a strike for 15 July to protest against what they see as increasingly low pay and working conditions made worse by the high temperatures currently affecting the country.
The decision to take action was taken at the end of a meeting organised by Nidil Cgil Firenze, which had been called to take stock of the main issues facing the sector and to plan the next protest actions. In particular, the discussion centred on the difficulties linked to reduced earnings and the risks faced by delivery riders whilst making deliveries on days affected by heatwaves.
According to a report by Nidil Cgil Florence, at the end of the meeting the workers decided to launch a new phase of industrial action which will begin with the strike on 15 July.
The protest aims to draw attention to the working conditions of home delivery drivers, calling for measures to ensure greater protection both financially and in terms of safety whilst carrying out their work, particularly during periods of extreme heat.
