Goodbye Audi A4. Welcome Audi A5 Avant. The Ingolstadt brand says goodbye to the A4 after 30 years and does so by presenting the station wagon version of the new A5. The reason for the name change? Greater clarity when it comes to thermal or fully electric models, with the 'even' numbers intended in future for cars without pistons under the bonnet. In addition to the new bodywork, which is matched by the saloon version christened Sportback, the Audi A5 brings a long list of new features to the road, starting with the PPC platform. An acronym for Premium Platform Combustion, it is designed to bring future internal combustion models to life. Second preview comes in the form of the 48 volt mild hybrid plus petrol and diesel engines, capable of powering the car with just the electric unit, thus making the A5 a full hybrid in technical terms. Definitive farewell, at least for the time being, to the Audi A5 coupé.
New Audi A5 Avant
.Apart from the name, the heir to the Audi A4 Station wagon changes completely in styling, showing a convincing design in terms of dynamism and brand recognition. At the front, the single frame with three-dimensional honeycomb structure has been updated, the variants become slimmer and there are plenty of references to the Audi Sport world. Repeating what has already been seen on the Q6 e-tron, the A5 is fitted with second generation Oled headlamps, with eight light signatures if you opt for Matrix Led and those at the rear thanks to 60 light segments are able to communicate with other cars and pedestrians through Car to x technology and graphics reproduced directly on the headlamp.
Interior Audi A5 202
Getting on board increases the points of contact with the Q6 e-tron, thanks to the three-screen dashboard managed by the E3 1.2 electronic architecture. In detail, there is an 11.9" digital instrumentation in front of the driver, a head-up display, a 14.5" screen with a curved panel from which to manage the Mmi infotainment system and a third 10.9" touch screen in front of the passenger.
New Audi A5 diesel hybrid
.While we wait to see all the new Audi A5's equipment, the range will be able to rely on the new mild hybrid plus electrification system, available in combination with petrol and diesel engines excluding the 2.0 Tfsi 150 hp entry version with variable geometry turbo and S tronic dual clutch gearbox. The 48-volt hybrid system, combined with the 2.0 Tdi engine with 204 hp and 400 Nm of torque (two or four-wheel drive) adds 24 horsepower and 230 Nm thanks to the Ptg (Powertrain Generator) unit and can recover up to 25 kW of energy during braking. Also presented is the S5 version, powered by the 3.0-litre V6 turbo-petrol V6 with Mhev Plus system with 367 horsepower and Quattro traction. On the driving dynamics front, the Ppc platform for cars with longitudinal thermic engines provides for two types of set-up with lowered suspension or adaptive dampers and, compared to the past, makes the steering progressive and with variable power-assistance and gearing. Prices not yet announced and arrival in Italy in the fourth quarter of 2024.
