Farewell to Goldschmied, father of jeans and master of Renzo Rosso
The entrepreneur died at the age of 82 in the hospital of Castelfranco Veneto: he had founded the Genius Group
Farewell to Adriano Goldschmied, a key figure in contemporary fashion and acknowledged as the'godfather of denim': thanks to him, every pair of jeans we wear today is not only an item of clothing, but an expression of identity, culture and innovation.
Death
Goldschmied passed away at the hospital in Castelfranco Veneto (Treviso) after a long illness at the age of 82, leaving behind his wife Michela and daughters Glenda and Marta, the latter already active in the industry with her own line. In recent months he had returned to live in Asolo (Treviso), after a long season between the United States and Italia, without ever stopping working on new projects. Until the very end, in fact, his obsession remained one: to create zero-impact jeans, a challenge that he himself called 'that of the new century'.
Life and Career
Born on29 November 1943 in Ivrea to a Trieste family of Jewish origin, he owes his name to Adriano Olivetti whose father Livio, a member of the Partito d'Azione and linked to Giustizia e Libertà, was very close. Goldschmied discovered the appeal of denim while observing American soldiers after the war.
"For us it was the dress of heroes," he recounted. That youthful fascination turned into an entrepreneurial vision that would change the fashion industry forever. After an initial attempt in the world of skiing, he opened a shop in Cortina d'Ampezzo in the early 1970s, the King's Shop, which quickly became an international benchmark for trendy clothing.
It was there that he intuited a principle destined to guide his entire career: there is always a market segment ready to pay for uniqueness. From that intuition, the concept of 'premium denim' was born. He thus started the first production of jeans in Italia, contributing to the creation of a Veneto district destined to become one of the most important in the world.
