Farewell to Marco Benedetto, former CEO of the Espresso Group
From leading the Espresso Group to developing BlitzQuotidiano.it, Benedetto has experienced decades of evolution in the world of information and communication as a protagonist.
Marco Benedetto died tonight in Rome at the age of 80 at his home. a leading figure in journalism, publishing and communication.
Born in Genoa in 1945, he graduated in Political Science and started his professional career as a journalist at Agenzia ANSA, working in the Genoa and then London offices.
His many assignments include head of the press office at Fiat, managing director of La Stampa and from 1984 managing director of the Espresso-Repubblica Group in the years of its triumphant landing on the stock exchange, also for Finegil, which was in charge of the group's local newspapers. From 1992 to 2008, he led the entire publishing group headed by Carlo De Benedetti.
He had turned 80 this year, having been born in Genoa on 26 January 1945. His exit marked an important moment of transition for the La Repubblica newspaper group.
The last initiative of Benedetto - who was also president of Manzoni Spa and vice-president in other publishing companies - had been the creation of the BlitzQuotidiano.it website in 2009, which he ran until 2018 and to which he had contributed hundreds of articles.
