His last public appearance was at Pierfrancesco Pingitore's 90th birthday party, smiling even though he was in a wheelchair, immortalised in various shots surrounded by many friends.
Pippo Baudo the 'king of presenters', died on the evening of 16 August 2025 at the age of 89. A monument of Italian TV, he was born in Militello (Catania) on 7 June 1936.
A very long career as a protagonist, rewarded with the honour of Cavaliere di Gran Croce dell'Ordine al merito of the Italian Republic, the highest award, which President Sergio Mattarella presented him with at the Quirinale on 22 September 2021.
89 years old and many records, such as the historic one of having conducted 13 Sanremo festivals, five of them consecutive (from 1992 to 1996) like the other legend Mike Bongiorno and like Amadeus.
A guest at La tv fa 70, the programme hosted by Massimo Giletti on Rai 1 on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Italian TV, Baudo had 'scolded' Amadeus, he did not want to believe that the 2024 festival was really his last.
The story will be different, it is known that Amadeus will move to the Nine, but when he agreed to conduct the first festival, he ran to Baudo to ask for advice.
