Speed in all its forms, or rather that of two-wheelers and even more so of four-wheelers, is the factor that for more than thirty years has brought almost 200,000 enthusiasts to the Duke of Richmond's immense estate at Goodwood in West Sussex between the end of June and mid-July. In this huge open-air stage the Festival of Speed always takes place on a date that never overlaps with the most important motor sport events, so that many famous drivers from the world of motorsport can be present at the event. And this was also the case in the edition that recently ended and even more so than in the past because Goodwood celebrated two important anniversaries: the 75th birthday of the Formula 1 World Championship and the 40th of Pirelli PZero. The result? A triumph of personalities, single-seaters and hypercars as never seen before and that, needless to deny it, gave even more depth to an event that rightfully ranks among the most important automotive ones, because year after year Goodwood has become the only car show in the United Kingdom. In short, it is not just the meeting place for racing cars and motorbikes and new cars.
Goodwood Festival of Speed, Pirelli unleashes 10,000 horsepower
.
But before listing the 'firsts' of car production, which were of all kinds including full-electric and more numerous than the Chinese past, let's start with the birthday celebrations. Opening the dances was the spectacular parade organised by Pirelli with 10,000 horsepower unleashed by legendary supercars on the two-kilometre track with nine curves of the Hillclimb to celebrate 40 years of PZeros and the arrival of the fifth generation. Wearing PZeros on the Goodwood hillclimb were a 2023 Formula 1 car with Grand Prix tyres, the Lancia Delta S4 Stradale from which this generation of Pirelli was born, the Ferrari F40, the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione, the Lamborghini Urus Se, the iEvija which brought Lotus back to the event, the Pagani Utopia Roadster, the Pagni Artura together with the Porsche Carrera 4 Gt, the Aston Martin Vanquish Volante as well as the Bmw Vision Driving Experience, a concept that prefigures forthcoming models from the Bavarian manufacturer and develops solutions designed to reconcile driving pleasure with the efficiency of future electric models. At Goodwood, Pirelli and Jaguar Land Rover also announced the first mass-produced PZero tyre that will initially equip the Range Rover, composed of over 70% natural and recycled materials, in addition to FSC certification on all the natural rubber used.
