A point in Google's favour in its appeal before the Court of Justice against the 4.1 billion fine imposed by the EU on the Mountain View giant. The opinion of Advocate General Juliane Kokott came out in favour of the record fine imposed by Brussels for abuse of a dominant position on the Android operating system.

The Court of Justice of the EU, based in Luxembourg, will have to decide in the coming months whether or not to follow the opinion.

In a first instance decision, the EU court had upheld the fine, the highest ever imposed by the European Commission. But Google appealed to the Court of Justice.

To justify the record fine imposed in 2018, the Commission had explained how Google had forced manufacturers of phones and tablets using its operating system to pre-install the Chrome search engine and browser in order to eliminate competitors.
