Google launches 'Googlebooks': laptops with Gemini integrated in the mouse cursor

Google tries to go beyond the Chromebook concept. The new category is called "Googlebook" and is designed around Gemini, the company's artificial intelligence model. The new laptops, announced during the Android Show 2026 event, combine Android and ChromeOS in a platform built to use AI as the core element of the interface.
The most visible novelty is the 'Magic Pointer': the mouse cursor becomes intelligent and contextual. Just move it or select elements on the screen for Gemini to suggest automatic actions. If the pointer passes over a date within an email, for example, the system suggests a calendar event. If two images are selected, Gemini can generate a new image by combining them.
Googlebook also focuses on Android integration. Smartphone apps can be opened directly on the laptop and files on the phone become accessible from the computer thanks to functions such as 'Cast My Apps' and 'Quick Access'.
On the hardware side, Google will not produce the laptops directly: the first models will come from companies such as Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo. The laptops will have a light bar called 'Glowbar', designed to signal activities and AI functions. Arrival on the market is planned for autumn 2026.
