Google AI Pro is now free for university students (for one year)
From Gemini 2.5 Pro to Veo 3, the plan offers academics free access to Google's AI tools for a year
A few weeks after the debut of Gemini's Guided learning mode designed to guide students in solving problems instead of providing immediate answers, a bit like OpenAI had already anticipated with ChatGPT's study mode launched last July, Google confirms its desire to offer students its most advanced tools in order to facilitate and improve learning. In this regard, the company has announced a novelty involving those attending a degree course: all students worldwide can now access the Google AI Pro plan free of charge for 12 months.
From the potential of the Gemini 2.5 Pro model to Deep Research for in-depth research or even Veo 3 for generating short videos from an image or text and Nano Banana for transforming abstract ideas into creative images, Google AI Pro includes several useful AI tools for study and learning moments; in addition, 2 TB of cloud storage space is provided for Gmail email and document storage on Drive or backing up photo albums on Google Photos.
But that wouldn't be the only action aimed at students and education professionals, in fact, Google recently also launched Gemini for Education, i.e. a version of the Gemini app that responds to the needs of the education sector and offered Gemini in Classroom at no cost in all editions of Google Workspace for Education, adding over 30 new features to support teachers to help them better plan teaching activities and create more engaging content. In this regard, the Google Italy team states in the official announcement blogpost: 'We're collaborating with universities around the world to help teachers and students use tools like Gemini and NotebookLM to improve efficiency, get more personalised support and promote AI literacy.
As announced by Google, the offer is currently intended for students who have reached the age of 18 and are resident in Italy, but there is a limit as those who meet the requirements will have to complete their enrolment in the plan by 9 December.
