Flooding at the Grand Canyon: one dead and 15 missing

One person has died and around 15 are missing following the severe flash flood at the Grand Canyon. The US National Park Service reported on Sunday evening that the body of a 46-year-old man had been recovered near Crystal Rapids, along the Colorado River.

The flooding forced the evacuation of dozens of people and knocked out the only water supply line serving tourists and residents. From today, tourists will not be able to stay overnight in the park’s lodges and hotels due to limited water supplies. Permanent residents have been asked to conserve water. The National Park Service said that Saturday’s flooding swept large boulders and metal structures into the Colorado River. Further rain is forecast for today.
