Greece: fire on the island of Salamis, two dead

Two people have been killed in the fires that broke out on the island of Salamina, near Athens. This was reported by the fire service, which had earlier announced the evacuation order for the area, home to hundreds of residents and beachgoers. “Two bodies have been found” in the area around Peristeria beach, in the south of the island, a spokesperson for the fire service told AFP.

There are currently two active fires: the first is in the Peristeria area, in a wooded area near a settlement, whilst the second is raging in the Selinia area.
