EU Commission green light for ninth instalment of the NRP for Italia of EUR 12.8 billion

EU Commission green light for Italy's ninth instalment of the NRP, amounting to EUR 12.8 billion. The Commission has positively assessed Italia's ninth payment request under the Recovery and Resilience Facility, the core of NextGenerationEU. Following the assessment of the payment request, the Commission found that Italia had satisfactorily completed all 16 milestones and 34 targets set in the Council Implementing Decision. The Commission has now transmitted its preliminary assessment of Italy's achievement of the targets and objectives required for this payment to the Council's Economic and Financial Committee, which has four weeks to give its opinion. The payment to Italia can take place following the opinion of the EFC and the adoption of a payment decision by the Commission.

"The reforms and related investments support important changes for citizens and businesses: a more efficient public administration, a faster justice system and the strengthening of the education system," stressed the Commission's executive vice-president in charge of Cohesion, Raffaele Fitto, on his social accounts. "With this tranche," he recalled, "the total funds disbursed to Italia reach around €166 billion, equal to 85% of the total resources envisaged by the Plan. "Among the main measures are the involvement of at least 3 million people in active labour policies, of which more than 600,000 have already been trained; the reduction of the backlog in administrative justice by more than 80%, with a significant improvement in the efficiency of the system; educational support for 44,000 minors in southern Italy; the renewal of the fire brigade fleet with more than 3,800 low-emission vehicles; and the redevelopment of 110 historic parks and gardens," Fitto explained.

The European Commission today announced the positive assessment of the payment of the ninth and penultimate instalment of the PNRR, amounting to EUR 12.8 billion. This payment will bring the total resources received by Italia in the coming weeks to EUR 166 billion, 'confirming the full achievement of all the planned objectives'. This was underlined in a note from Palazzo Chigi.

"With the approval of the payment of the ninth instalment, linked to the achievement of 50 objectives, Italia consolidates its European leadership in the implementation of the PNRR in terms of resources received and results achieved: 416 goals and objectives, including reforms and strategic investments for growth, with concrete effects on families and businesses. The PNRR model in Italy has marked the passage from a logic of expenditure to a culture of reforms and structural investments. This is the path that will guide development policies after 2026, for a stronger, more cohesive Italia that will be a protagonist in global challenges,' said Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

"The official numbers of Italy's Plan," commented the Minister for European Affairs, the NRDP and Cohesion Policies, Tommaso Foti, "are eloquent: 416 objectives achieved, EUR 166 billion secured for Italia, 655,677 projects financed, more than 541,000 interventions concluded and about 100,000 in the execution or completion phase. With the approval of the penultimate instalment, 73% of the Plan's objectives have been achieved, a figure well above the European average. PNRR Italy, with the new governance, through the synergic cooperation of all the institutions in charge, has overcome the structural weaknesses that have slowed the nation down for decades and has removed the chronic obstacles to growth, ensuring a more lasting development and representing an example to follow after the positive experience of the Plan".
