A green revolution in real estate with the aim of improving air quality in Italian cities. This is the gist of the agreement just signed between REair and Acrobatica.
The objective is to transform the real estate assets of major Italian cities into a powerful vehicle for the reduction of the main pollutants (nitrogen oxides and organic PM dust) that impact on air quality and a general improvement in the healthiness of the environment and quality of life of citizens. This is how the strategic partnership signed by REair (a research, development and production company active in the field of eco-technologies) with Acrobatica (a leading company in Italy and Europe in the 'double safety rope' operational building sector) is operational.
"The agreement proposes a renewed urban, architectural and environmental vision in which the façades of buildings, monuments and homes and interior spaces are transformed into 'invisible forests' - the two companies explain in a note - becoming an active part in promoting people's wellbeing and health and transforming cities, from the centre to the periphery, into living, sustainable ecosystems.
Strategic Alliance
.A mission that, from 2019, sees REair committed through the use of ecological, transparent coatings that are easy to apply on any type of surface, safe and whose effectiveness in reducing pollutants and the degradation of microorganisms in indoor environments is certified by tests carried out by international laboratories accredited according to UNI EN and ISO standards. "The sustainability of REair products also translates into economic benefits, allowing an improvement in performance and a 50% reduction in cleaning and maintenance costs," the company explains. The Milan-based company, with its products based on photocatalytic technologies, has treated, between Europe and the USA, over 600 thousand square metres of outdoor and indoor surfaces with an average reduction in nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions of 120 thousand kg, the equivalent of planting 288 thousand trees in the city.
Bad air in the city
.The fight against smog in Italian cities is still uphill. As Legambiente denounces, despite a reduction in air pollutant levels by 2023, cities are struggling to accelerate the pace towards a substantial improvement in air quality. Their current levels have been stable for several years now, in line with current legislation, but they remain far from the regulatory limits that will soon be approved by the EU, scheduled for 2030, and above all from the values suggested by the World Health Organisation (WHO), highlighting the need for a firm commitment that can no longer be postponed to protect people's health.
