Guangzhou Motor Show 2025: what's new in the showcase
While the show will feature 93 new cars, it is also true that much of this offer is destined for the local market or for a global market that does not foresee exports to Europe for the time being. With the exception of two brands that are Xpeng and Leapmotor. New energy models are increasingly the protagonists at exhibitions like the one in Guangzhou.
Key points
Before the novelty of the two brands, Xpeng and Leapmotor, that most closely interest the Italian market, a consideration should be made that starts with a number. In the total of 1,085 vehicles on display there are 629 new energy vehicles, representing almost 60%, an unprecedented wave of electrification. The penetration rate of new energy vehicles in October was 56.98% and that of the first 10 months was 52.71%. However, at this year's Guangzhou Auto Show, new energy products have already been promoted from supporting to leading roles to the extent that they are the sole focus of numerous new products on the exhibition stands.
Xpeng exhibits X9 Super Extended Range
Added to this is the brand's first extended range vehicle, the X9 Super Extended Range. Official figures show that the combined range of the X9 Super Extended Range version is 1,602 km while the electric range is 452 km. A performance that is already similar to that of full electric models. On the X9 there is a large fuel tank that provides no range anxiety. Added to this is a high utilisation of space through excellent design.
From a market perspective, hybrid MPVs in the range with prices within 300,000 yuan are the main choice for domestic customers. The Xpeng X9, which has already established a strong influence in the electric market, has the opportunity to explore more shares by entering the most popular market with its extended-range version. The other extended-range versions Xpeng P7+ and Xpeng G6 complete its offering.
Three new cars from Leapmotor, in particular the entry level
Leapmotor unveils three new vehicles, the Leapmotor Lafa 5, which has already been announced but not yet launched, the Leapmotor D19, and the first model in the Leapmotor A series: the Leapmotor A10. The three models have different characteristics and cover different sectors: the Leapmotor Lafa 5 offers pleasurable driving control as its strong point. The Leapmotor D19 is a top-of-the-range SUV aimed at families, while the Leapmotor A10 focuses on entry-level crossovers, competing with small electric cars such as the BYD Seagull, which is also already on sale on the Italian market. The range according to the Chinese CLTC approval cycle is 500 km. The Leapmotor A10 can already be ordered in China, with marketing planned from the beginning of 2026.
Link & Co, Geely's brand displays the Z 20
Compact, electric and premium. It is the novelty you don't expect from one of the Geely group's brands. In fact, at the Guangzhou Motor Show a car debuts, the Z 20, destined for a young clientele with red leather interiors, not an SUV but a sports sedan also for a female clientele. It is not yet certain that it will land in Europe where the brand is already known: it would not disfigure in urban city traffic.
