Iran: ‘We have shot down more US military aircraft than they claim’
The Iranian Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, has claimed that the number of US military aircraft shot down by Iran during the conflict, which has been ongoing since 28 February, is higher than Washington has stated. “In May, the Congressional Research Service admitted that the Iranian armed forces had shot down 42 US military aircraft. That figure has now risen to 81. The actual toll is far higher,” said Tehran’s foreign minister on X, publishing an alleged document from the Congressional Research Service dated 5 October. “CENTCOM will not allow a serving senator to inspect bases it claims are intact,” Araghchi stated, pointing to what he believes to be “proof” that the number of US military aircraft shot down by Iran is higher than that claimed by the US.
Defence, Crosetto: ‘Italian troops in Saudi Arabia are not taking part in combat operations’
by Andrea Carli

The decision to transfer Italian military personnel from Kuwait to Saudi Arabia, relocating them to safety partly within Saudi Arabia and partly to other countries, was not a political decision, but a technical one. This was highlighted by Defence Minister Guido Crosetto, who spoke on Thursday 8 September before the Foreign Affairs and Defence Committees of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate regarding the attack on the Ta’if base in Saudi Arabia. The during an attack on the base, an Italian fighter jet on the ground.
The hearing was also marked by a clash between the minister and opposition representatives over whether the deployment to Saudi Arabia constitutes a ‘mission’, as stated on the ministry’s website. ‘In Saudi Arabia there is a redeployment, not a new mission: the ministry’s website refers to it as a mission, and that is incorrect. I was told: ‘But the term “mission” was used in a military sense, not a legal one.’ But rest assured, I will defend Parliament on this matter as soon as I leave here,” said Crosetto, also admitting, “I don’t always read the website.”

Israeli doctors: ‘One year on from the ceasefire, no hospital in Gaza is fully operational’
Today, no hospital in the Gaza Strip is fully operational: in October 2025, 14 of Gaza’s 36 hospitals were partially operational. Almost a year on, 20 hospitals are partially operational, but none of them is functioning at full capacity. This is revealed in a new report by the organisation Physicians for Human Rights Israel (PHRI), which examines the state of Gaza’s healthcare system one year on from the ceasefire that began in October last year, noting that conditions have improved only marginally. This is reported by The Times of Israel.
In October 2025, Gaza had 103 intensive care beds. The report indicates that, by July 2026, this number had increased by just one, reaching 104. The document also notes that patients in Gaza continued to die whilst awaiting medical evacuation: according to the Gaza Ministry of Health (run by Hamas), between October 2023 and 2 July 2026, at least 1,570 patients died whilst waiting to be evacuated for treatment; among them were 505 cancer patients and at least 264 children.

Israel: ‘UK consulate in East Jerusalem closed, but some diplomats may remain’
Israel has announced that the UK consulate in East Jerusalem has ceased operations, though it added that a small group of British diplomats had been allowed to remain. The move comes a month after Israel announced the closure of the British consulate, in response to sanctions imposed by London against Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank. “The British consulate in Jerusalem has ceased operations today. The Consul-General and 20 diplomats (...) have completed their mission and will leave Israel,” said Israel’s Foreign Minister Gideon Saar in a statement, adding that a “task force of seven British diplomats” would remain.

‘Oil tanker attacked off the coast of Qatar; an unknown number of casualties’
An oil tanker sailing off the northern coast of Qatar has been attacked, resulting in an unknown number of casualties. This was reported by the UK Maritime Security Agency (UKMTO). The attack took place as Iran announced the closure of a route through the Strait of Hormuz used to circumvent the naval blockade imposed by Tehran. The vessel was in the Gulf, approximately 500 km west of the Strait of Hormuz, when it reported having been struck “by several projectiles”, according to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO). The UK authority did not specify the vessel’s origin. The incident occurred as attacks on oil tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz reached their highest weekly level since the start of the war with Iran, according to maritime security firms, with oil prices exceeding $100 a barrel.

Houthis: Riyadh airport hit by a ballistic missile
The Houthis in Yemen have claimed today to have struck the main international airport in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, with a ballistic missile – yet another attack on Saudi Arabia claimed by the Iran-backed group. The claim came a day after anti-government fighters announced a series of attacks in Saudi Arabia – which claimed the lives of three people – and after the Yemeni government, backed by Riyadh, announced a major counter-offensive against the Houthis. “Our armed forces successfully struck King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh using a ballistic missile; the missile hit its target with precision, causing the suspension of airport operations,” military spokesman Yahya Saree stated on X. This is the third time this week that the group has claimed responsibility for an attack on the airport. “We reiterate our appeal and our warning – for the last time – to all international airlines not to continue operating flights through Saudi airspace,” added Saree.

Why 7 October 2023 marks the end of two illusions

When the trauma is still fresh — and fear takes hold — it can happen that, in a war, ideas once considered unshakeable die alongside people. The framework of a peace process that began in 1993 and was built up over three decades may crumble, even amongst those who had been its most fervent supporters.
7 October 2023 will not only be remembered as the worst massacre of Jews in a single day since the Holocaust. Along with the approximately 1,200 victims, both civilian and military, what has died is the Israeli notion of security guaranteed by the state and the army, on the one hand, and the belief that a Palestinian state might one day be established, on the other.

Axios: ‘Order issued to the US armed forces in preparation for a possible resumption of attacks on Iran’
A few days ago, the Pentagon instructed the US Central Command (Centcom) to finalise preparations for the resumption of large-scale combat operations against Iran. This was reported by Axios, citing US officials. The directive did not specify a date for the start of the attacks, and President Donald Trump has not yet made any final decisions. However, US and Israeli sources have stated that the action could take place before the mid-term elections in November and, possibly, before the Israeli elections a week earlier. Iranian energy, infrastructure and nuclear targets are in the crosshairs.

Trump attacks El-Sayed: ‘An extremist and sympathiser with terrorists’
Donald Trump attacks the Democratic Senate candidate in Michigan, Abdul Mohammed El-Sayed. “He’s terrible for the ‘Dumocrats’. Whereas his opponent, Mike Rogers, is excellent. Mohammed harks back to the days of Jihad. He is a radical extremist, a sympathiser with terrorists, and is no different from his best friend, Hasan Piker, who hates America,” writes the tycoon on Truth. “How are things going in France? Mohammed’s values are certainly not those of the people of Michigan, nor those of our great United States! He is the wrong choice for Michigan and America. Vote for Mike Rogers: he has my full and total support and will never let you down.”
