Hamnet

Chloé Zhao's moving film could be the outsider of the ten, just behind the favourites 'A Battle After Another' and 'The Sinners'. The film recounts the figure of William Shakespeare through the eyes of his wife and in particular the trauma that led to the creation of 'Hamlet'. It is based on the novel of the same name by Maggie O'Farrell, which was published in 2020 and quickly became a success. Set in 16th century rural England, the film immerses us in the daily life of the couple, who raise three children, Susanna, Judith and Hamnet. It is the beginning of a biographical, if deeply fictionalised, product, enhanced by the eye of the talented Chinese author and the spectacular performance of Jessie Buckley, a great favourite for the Best Actress award.
