(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - With the merger between Harmonic Innovation Group and Eht Holding, one of the most important conglomerate holding companies in the field of innovation is born. A reality that today counts more than 1500 start-ups and a pro forma turnover of over 40 million euro and over 400 million as the aggregate value of the consortium network . In an interview with Radiocor, the new president Pasqualino Scaramuzzino, traces the route of the future that points to expansion abroad with a particular focus on the United States, where the Innovit project has already begun. But the heart and brain remain firmly planted in Italy. Between Calabria and Sicily, in fact, the company is building the Mediterranean's largest hub for innovation.

How was Harmonic Innovation born and what are its lines of business?

Harmonic Innovation Group was born out of an intuition brought forward by Entopan, a company founded 25 years ago, which promoted with vision the need to find an Italian way to innovation by promoting an ecosystem approach on multiple levels and territories, also anticipating the principles of the Piano Mattei. Today, that vision has been transformed into our Group, a major player in innovation also thanks to the merger with Etna Hitech. Since the merger of these entities, completed at the end of June, we have become the leading player in Italian innovation. The theme is the construction of an ecosystem, a place where all the components of innovation can find a home. Starting with the research, development, incubation and acceleration and marketing of innovative systems.

In comparison with other realities, how do you differ

?

The group, as it is today, has three different business lines within it, and this is the first novelty in our ecosystem. There are companies that only do innovation scouting, or only real estate or only system integration. Instead, we operate simultaneously and synergistically on all areas. The second innovation is the way we look at and generate change. We call it harmonic innovation because it is conceived and developed to promote long-term economic, social and environmental impacts, and from a Mediterranean perspective, we want to speak to the world by affirming our authentic model of innovation.

Are expansions abroad planned?

We have approved the guidelines of a strategic plan that includes openings abroad. The plan will be defined in detail and illustrated by the end of the year. In the meantime, we are already present in San Francisco where, together with the Fondazione Brodolini, we manage Innovit's activities in Silicon Valley. The government has identified us as the entity that is capable of bringing the Italian innovation ecosystem into dialogue with the American one. Not only that, African start-ups that apply for acceleration from Mattei Plan countries under the AI Hub for Sustainable Development programme will also land there. An example of an ecosystem between Southern Italy, the USA and Africa. We have been working for a year and a half and I must say that Innovit has taken on a worldwide echo and there have been great acknowledgements. As proof of this, we were invited to the G7 Commerce meeting in Reggio Calabria last July precisely because of the credibility and reliability of our work. Openings abroad are part of our business plan and the merger with Eht brings us closer to this goal: to guarantee a series of openings all over the world to export our model of innovation.

In addition to the United States, are you looking at other countries?

We are aiming for Singapore, London, and Hong Kong in the next five years. We are working in this direction. We have big investors who are betting on us and believe in what we are doing. The path is identified. We think we are an asset of the country; we define ourselves as a private company of public interest; that is, made by private individuals but with a public relevance.

Financially, how did you end 2023?

It closed with a growth in the activities we do with a particular focus on assisting start-ups and SMEs, which now number 1,500, and on innovation. Today we have a pro-forma turnover of over EUR 40 million and an aggregate production value of the consortium network of over EUR 420 million.

Are you confident that you will continue to grow in the current year as well?

We will continue to grow in double figures. Our objective is twofold; on the one hand to affirm the industrial project; on the other hand to affirm our idea as bearers of authenticity.

Does your strategic plan include a possible listing?

The stock market is a beautiful experience but we are shying away from metrics that are not in our soul. We do not like short-term logic. We are a long-term business, we have patient investors who know that their investment will pay off. We are a bit atypical, which is why the stock market is not in our plans.

Artificial Intelligence is changing people's habits. In your opinion, is this a cause for concern or an opportunity?

Artificial intelligence must be a tool that humans use. It cannot be designed to use man. If interpreted as a technique used by man it has a great pro if there is a subversion of values it will be chaos for all.
