Harvard loses 60 million in federal funding for failure to combat anti-Semitism

The US government has revoked$60 million in federal funding earmarked for Harvard University, accusing the university of failing to address incidents ofanti-Semitism and racial discrimination on its campus. This was announced by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), which justified the decision by citing "systematic and ongoing failures" on the part of the university to deal with harassment and discriminatory acts.

In a post on X, the HHS clarified that the suspension affects several multi-year grants that will be halted for their full planned duration. The move is part of a broader action by the Trump administration, which has already halted or suspended funding worth close to three billion dollars in total, with a particular focus on entities deemed to be failing in the fight against hate and discrimination.

In a note prior to the decision, Harvard had admitted that it could not fully cover the projects involved with its own funds and had initiated a dialogue with the research groups to facilitate access to alternative sources of funding.
