From drones for military use to those for rescue operations and environmental defence. Siralab Sistemi Spa was established in Terni in 2007 as a spin-off of the University of Perugia, with an essentially military vocation. Today, it is the leading company in Italy in the field of design and production of remotely piloted aircraft systems or Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and rotary-wing and fixed-wing aircraft with advanced vertical take-off and landing capabilities used in a wide variety of sectors.
Siralab deserves credit for having designed a drone for fast defibrillator transport, as well as for having created an autonomous, electrically-powered Unmanned Surface Vessel for the environmental monitoring of lakes and reservoirs capable of carrying out sampling campaigns, measurements and bathymetry automatically. The customer 'package' is extensive, both in Italy and abroad. The Terni-based company is referred to by the Armed Forces and Police, Civil Defence, government agencies and defence ministries.
Siralab is also the reference player in Italy for the supply of tactical mini-micro drones for government use. Important results have been achieved thanks to a team of highly experienced researchers, engineers and technicians, highly qualified in the field of automatic controls applied to small avionics and aerostructures and in image processing. Competence and passion have been the ingredients that have led the pool to develop innovative products capable of providing the most effective answers in a constantly evolving field such as global security, but not only. Although the core business remains defence," explains Michele Feroli, engineer and CEO of Silarlab, "the leading robotics company has developed integrated systems capable of handling emergencies in mountainous areas, even in the most hostile environments. Real-time dissemination of images from the field allows the decision-making process to be dynamically adapted to the evolving situation. With a keen eye on the environment, the Umbrian company has developed a multirotor of reduced size and weight to enable aerophotographic and photogrammetric surveys, aimed at direct control of areas at risk for the illegal dumping of waste and of waterways in the event of illegal spills of pollutants. In 2020, Dronus acquired 70% of Siralab Robotics, boosting its technological development and becoming the leading player in Italy.
