Health, infrastructure and work the priorities of Liguria
The president of the region, Marco Bucci, intends to push the accelerator on the region's high quality of life, which in the coming years will seek to create value not only in the tourism and blue economy sectors, but also in AI, technology and nuclear energy

With this phrase, the president of the Liguria region, Marco Bucci, condensed his concept of the region and also his political programme for the next four years of his mandate. A programme that will rest on the pillars of health, infrastructure and work to ensure that Liguria increasingly becomes an area where people want to live, work, do business, or even spend leisure time. "Our action plan is progressing very well and will continue to do so in the coming years," Bucci said when interviewed by Radiocor Il Sole 24 Ore.
Great Attention to Health
The president was particularly keen to emphasise the great attention paid by the institutions to healthcare, due to the high percentage of elderly people living in the area. As proof, the region is at the forefront at the national level on the state of advancement of structural investments earmarked for the construction of Community Houses under the PNRR. In fact, 66% of the work has already been completed and Bucci has announced that by the end of March 2026 all the planned Houses will be open, so as to provide support and assistance to all citizens, even those who live in the most inaccessible areas and far from the main hospitals.
Tourism: almost 21 million visitors in 2025 (+3.75%)
The focus also remains on tourism, where excellent results have been recorded. According to data from the Viminale, the number of visitors in 2025 was 20,804,965, up 3.75% on 2024, with interesting numbers even in the 'dead' periods and in the hinterland. "Liguria is not only bathing and trekking," the president recalled, pointing the finger on the territory's cultural offer, services and infrastructures.
Expansion of the Port of Genoa and high-speed arrival
For the creation of value and jobs, Liguria is betting on the port of Genoa, which will become one of Europe's most important hubs thanks to the creation of a new dam. The President also pointed out that "the port of Genoa is the gateway to Europe not only for goods and passengers, but also for data transported through submarine cables". The works are expected to be completed in 2028. On the infrastructure front, among other things, a boost to the region will also come from the high-speed train, which should be operational at the end of 2027. "It will bring great benefits, as has happened in other regions. It will make it possible to live in one city and work in another,' Bucci said.
AI and nuclear power the new routes to take
Nuclear and technology are other businesses in which the region aims to become a protagonist. "We have made an official request to have the national agency on nuclear power, being able to boast expertise and competences uncommon to the rest of Italia," emphasised Bucci, who also said that Genoa also aspires to become home to one of Europe's Gigafactories dedicated to Artificial Intelligence. Moreover, it will be able to leverage the Italian Institute of Technology, as well as industrial groups of the calibre of Leonardo-Finmeccanica, Ansaldo and Fincantieri. And on the subject of AI, the region has been indicated as lead partner in the health-to-tourism sectors of the government project Reg4Ia, for the implementation of Artificial Intelligence in regions and local authorities. "We are very happy to be part of this important project," Bucci concluded, recalling that new technologies must be not an end but a means to offer citizens better services.
