Health insurance scheme for school staff: enrolment still open after 20 September

For staff who have already enrolled in the scheme by 20 September, health cover will come into effect on 30 September 2026; from that date, these staff members will be able to register on the Unisalute portal and start using the dedicated app.

This is clarified in Note 18048 of 25 September 2026, in which the Ministry of Education and Merit provided further guidance on the process for activating cover and on new enrolments.

As regards new sign-ups, a number of clarifications have been provided which confirm what the trade union had previously indicated, starting with CISL Scuola: a) staff who, although eligible to do so, did not sign up by 20 September will still have the opportunity to do so; b) staff who, as at 20 September, had entered into a fixed-term contract (annual or until the end of the academic year) but were unable to join because the contract had not yet been registered with SIDI may express their intention to join once the administrative procedures have been completed; c) staff who enter into a fixed-term contract (annual or until the end of the academic year) at a later date may express their consent once the administrative procedures relating to the signing of the contract (registration of the contract on SIDI) have been completed.

For enrolments made after 20 September 2026, insurance cover will come into effect as follows: a) enrolments made between the 1st and 15th of each month: the policy will take effect from the first day of the following month, and registration on the Unisalute portal must take place from the day the policy takes effect; b) enrolments made between the 16th and the last day of each month: the policy will take effect from the 15th day of the following month, and registration on the Unisalute portal must take place from the day the policy takes effect.
