The heatwave is easing off, and the green alerts are back: on Friday, for 18 of the 27 cities being monitored
On Thursday 2 July, there were still two cities on ‘red alert’ (Catania and Reggio Calabria), one on ‘orange alert’ (Messina) and the remaining 24 on ‘yellow alert’.
With the end of a long spell of extreme heat, and the arrival of thunderstorms and cooler air, the ‘green dots’ have reappeared after many days in the Ministry of Health’s Heatwave Bulletin, level 0, which indicates “weather conditions that do not pose a risk to public health”.
On Friday 3 June, according to today’s update, 18 cities (out of the 27 considered) will finally be in the green zone: Ancona, Bari, Bologna, Bolzano, Brescia, Cagliari, Campobasso, Civitavecchia, Florence, Latina, Milan, Naples, Perugia, Rieti, Trieste, Venice, Verona and Viterbo.
Also on Friday, nine cities are expected to be on ‘yellow alert’: Catania, Frosinone, Genoa, Messina, Palermo, Pescara, Reggio Calabria, Rome and Turin.
For tomorrow, Thursday 2 July, however, there are still two cities on ‘red alert’ (Catania and Reggio Calabria), one on ‘orange alert’ (Messina) and the remaining 24 on ‘yellow alert’.
According to the Ministry of Health’s risk level table:
- the ‘yellow alert’ (pre-alert level 1) indicates weather conditions that may precede a heatwave: this level does not require immediate action, but indicates that conditions posing a risk to health are likely to occur in the coming days;
- the ‘orange alert’ (level 2) indicates weather conditions that may pose a risk to health, particularly for the most vulnerable population groups;
. the “red alert” (level 3) indicates emergency conditions (heatwave) with possible adverse effects on the health of healthy, active people, and not just on at-risk groups such as the elderly, very young children and people with chronic illnesses.
