Measures to combat the heat at the Revenue Agency’s head offices

T-shirts are allowed in the office where the dress code is less formal. The tax authority’s heatwave strategy is being rolled out from its head offices.

The issue of high temperatures is also affecting the provision of tax services, and the agency’s director, Vincenzo Carbone, has acknowledged this by issuing instructions to the offices (for the time being, only those at Via del Giorgione, the headquarters of the central directorates, and Largo Leopardi, the central directorates for land registry services), allowing staff to wear clothing more suited to the high temperatures of recent days, which are set to remain high.

In this case, the dress code reflects the role, and as employees of the Revenue Agency holding positions of responsibility and professional prestige, they are well aware that a respectful standard of dress also reflects the institutional function they perform, regardless of whether they are interacting with the public.

Having said that, one cannot fail to take into account that spending long hours in the office over the past few weeks, in the standard grey uniform, can cause genuine fatigue, to the extent that the Agency’s head, in order to cope with the exceptional heatwave, has opened up the possibility of wearing less formal attire during working hours.

The call for a more relaxed dress code comes in the form of a formal directive, currently limited to the two offices on Via del Giorgione and Largo Leopardi; and who knows – with the high temperatures set to continue – whether it might not also be introduced as a measure to combat the heat in the offices of other departments.
