"Francis has left everyone an admirable witness of humanity, holy life and universal paternity". These are the words with which the 'Rogito per il Pio transito' of Pope Francis, the document recording his life and works, read on the evening of 25 April during the closing rite in St Peter's Basilica, concludes. During the rite, presided over by the Cardinal Chamberlain, the Master of Liturgical Celebrations gave the reading of the deed, which was placed in the coffin at the end of the celebration. With a white silk veil, the Pope's face was covered. Inside the coffin was a bag containing the coins and medals minted during his pontificate and the deed, which was placed in a sealed metal tube.
Francis' closeness to the poor, to prisoners, to the last
Francis, the deed reads, 'passed from this world to the Father'. He was the 266th Pope. It starts with his first sentence as Pope: "Brothers and sisters, good evening!". Then his closeness to the poor, to prisoners, to the sick. "He was a simple and much-loved pastor in his Archdiocese, who travelled far and wide, even by metro and bus. He lived in a flat and prepared his own dinner, because he felt like one of the people'. He invited priests to have the courage to leave the sacristies to go in search of the lost sheep and to keep the doors open. Here is the text of the deed.

.ROGITATION FOR THE PIOUS TRANSIT OF HIS HOLINESS FRANCIS
DEATH, DEPOSITION AND TUMULATION OF HIS HOLINESS FRANCIS
With us a pilgrim of hope, a guide and companion on the journey towards the great goal to which we are called, Heaven, on 21 April of the Holy Year 2025, at 7.35 a.m., as the light of Easter illuminated the second day of the Octave, Easter Monday, the Beloved Pastor of the Church Francis passed from this world to the Father. The whole Christian community, especially the poor, gave praise to God for the gift of his service rendered with courage and fidelity to the Gospel and the mystical Bride of Christ. Francesco was the 266th Pope. His memory remains in the heart of the Church and of all humanity.
Jorge Mario Bergoglio, elected Pope on 13 March 2013, was born in Buenos Aires on 17 December 1936, to emigrants from Piedmont: his father Mario was an accountant, employed in the railways, while his mother, Regina Sivori, looked after the home and education of their five children. Having graduated as a chemical technician, he then chose the path of the priesthood, initially entering the diocesan seminary and, on 11 March 1958, moving to the novitiate of the Society of Jesus. He did his humanistic studies in Chile and, returning to Argentina in 1963, graduated in philosophy at St Joseph's College in San Miguel.
He was a professor of literature and psychology at the colleges of the Immaculata in Santa Fé and the College of the Saviour in Buenos Aires. He received priestly ordination on 13 December 1969 from Archbishop Ramón José Castellano, and made his perpetual profession in the Jesuits on 22 April 1973. After serving as novice master at Villa Barilari in San Miguel, professor at the Faculty of Theology, councillor of the Society of Jesus Province and rector of the College, he was appointed provincial of the Jesuits of Argentina on 31 July 1973. After 1986 he spent a few years in Germany to complete his doctoral thesis and, once back in Argentina, Cardinal Antonio Quarracino wanted him as his close collaborator. On 20 May 1992 John Paul II appointed him Titular Bishop of Auca and auxiliary of Buenos Aires.
