Holiday over for Meloni who leaves the Itria Valley: here are his next engagements

On 30 August the most eagerly awaited appointment: the one with the two deputy prime ministers, Matteo Salvini and Antonio Tajani. From the summit should come the go-ahead for Fitto as Italy's candidate for the European Commission

The start at dawn. Like last year. On Thursday 22 August Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni left Masseria Beneficio, the resort in the countryside of Ceglie Messapica where she stayed for ten days, when it was still dark. A quick goodbye to the owner of the facility and the staff who took care of the Prime Minister and her staff, and off she went, far from the lenses that tried in vain to immortalise her. The stay in Ceglie Messapica had been anticipated by a dinner hosted by the premier at Borgo Egnazia, the luxury resort that hosted the G7 leaders in mid-June. An Italian-led summit that Meloni repeatedly described as a 'success'.

Very few people have had access to Masseria Beneficio in recent days. No contact with the outside world, disappointed those who hoped to see Giorgia Meloni for a walk through the alleys of Ceglie Messapica. Only two photos posted on social media testify to the premier's presence in Apulia: the shot at the swimming pool with her daughter Ginevra for Ferragosto greetings to all Italians, and the one of the delivery of a delicious capocollo di Martina Franca in front of the gourmet banquet set up for a lunch made in Apulia.

Holidays yes, but not too much. The premier spent her days between business calls in the shade of the olive trees, between foreign and domestic policy, and a few dips with the other guests with whom she shared the resort: from her former partner Andrea Giambruno to her sister Arianna with her husband, Minister Lollobrigida, and their daughters. It was Arianna Meloni herself, while enjoying the peace of the Apulian countryside, who was at the centre of controversy over an alleged investigation concerning her.

The meeting with Salvini

The PM's holidays were also characterised by a 'convivial meeting' last Sunday with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructures Matteo Salvini, who joined her at a masseria. The League leader, with his partner Francesca Verdini, had been on holiday in Salento for several days. At the masseria Beneficio, for a 'courtesy' greeting, Chamber of Deputies president Lorenzo Fontana was also seen last Sunday. And while the prime minister left those who had hoped to see her in the Brindisi area for a selfie high in the air, Giambruno and Lollobrigida were spotted several times on their bikes in the Ceglie Messapica countryside, with the minister also taking advantage of her presence in Valle D'Itria for official visits to the Ceglie Messapica and Martina Franca forestry carabinieri.

In Ceglie Messapica, there are those who are hoping for a narrow return of the premier for the seventh edition of the political kermesse 'La Piazza' organised by the director of Affaritaliani.it, Angelo Perrino, scheduled from 29 to 31 August. "We would like to have you with us. You have brought prestige to our city,' explains the president of the association of the same name, Marcello Antelmi, 'and now we are ready to welcome you with open arms. We understand and respect the premier's institutional commitments: we renew our invitation. We would also welcome a video message'.

Jails, bathers and RAI: upcoming dossiers

The executive might meet again as early as the last week of August: among the knots on the table is the name of the Italian commissioner to be referred to Brussels. But also the prison emergency, with the government studying a new measure after the decree approved at the beginning of August.

Summit with Salvini and Tajani on 30 August

On 30 August the most awaited appointment: the one with the two deputy prime ministers, Matteo Salvini and Antonio Tajani. "On 30 August we will hold a three-way summit with Matteo Salvini and Antonio Tajani to take stock of the situation in view of the recovery," confirmed Meloni. In fact, by 31 August the executive must indicate to Brussels the candidate for a 'weighty' post in the new European Commission led once again by Ursula von der Leyen. Minister Fitto's name remains in pole position and the possible meeting of the Cdm in the last week of August could be the occasion to share within the executive the 'chosen one' to be then made official in Brussels.
