Home bonus and Pnrr, engineers' incomes rise by 80 per cent

An increase inincome of around 80% since 2020 for freelance engineers. But in recent months there has also been a phase of stabilisation, which forces the category to question itself about its future. These are the numbers that were the starting point for the National Congress of Engineers, which opened yesterday in Ancona with a report by the president of the National Council, Domenico Perrini.

In fact, these months are seeing less marked growth: in 2024 and 2025, the increase in turnover is below 1 per cent. After the boom of recent years, in short, we are moving into a phase of stabilisation.

The end of this expansive cycle makes it necessary to look to the reforms of the next few years, which were the focus of Perrini's speech. The president started from theDelegated Law Decree on the reform of the professions, recently approved by the Council of Ministers: "A historic opportunity; after years of partial interventions, there is finally the possibility of bringing an overall and structured vision". Among the priorities, "there is that of overcoming the current mechanism of the certification exam". The aim is to give "young engineers the possibility of a more rapid, consistent and effective entry into the labour market".

On the subject of public contracts, there are many positive innovations included in the corrective, starting with the interventions in fair compensation. Even if, on these, it will be necessary to verify the correct application of the principle. The decree of parameters, which sets the fees to be used as a basis for tenders, has not yet been adjusted.
