Horse, the W30 engine arrives: the lightest V6 on the market

Horse Powertrain, a joint venture between Geely and Renault, previewed the new W30, its first V6 engine. The Horse W30 represents a real innovation for the brand, which in doing so transfers its experience in the development of optimised three- and four-cylinder engines to the V6 category, with the lightest ever. In fact, the new engine weighs only 160 kg, around 10 kg less than the second V6 currently available on the market. Designed to equip both mild-hybrid and also full-hybrid vehicles, the new Horse W30 will be available on the first V6 models from 2028.

The new engine can deliver power between 350 and 400 kW, plus torque between 600 and 700 Nm, for a maximum speed of 8,000 rpm. To maximise efficiency and ensure significant fuel economy, the Horse W30 is also equipped with integrated exhaust manifolds with turbochargers mounted directly on the cylinder heads. The Horse W30 is a 3-litre engine that can be installed in both transverse and longitudinal configurations, allowing integration in a wide variety of vehicles. The two rows of cylinders are staggered by 90° to lower the engine's centre of gravity, effectively simplifying installation and improving the layout of the catalytic converter.

The Horse W30 reaffirming its hybrid-first vocation will be unveiled at the Beijing Motor Show 2026 together with the new Horse 4LDHT four-speed hybrid transmission that weighs only 199 kg and is designed to be installed in P1 and P3 configurations. The P1 engine that will be used to support the drive shaft and recharge the vehicle's battery will be able to deliver a total power output of between 250 and 300 kW. While the P3 engine, which is used exclusively to drive the vehicle, offers a power output of between 350 and 450 kW in a P3 configuration. Both the new gearbox and the new W30 engine will make their public debut on 24 April.
