Horse the engine and transmission specialist, 50/50 jointly managed by the Renault and Geely groups, aims to offer with the new C15 powertrain a solution that allows a car that was born and designed to be purely electric to be turned into a car with extended range propulsion, i.e. with a generator that powers and recharges the batteries. It will make its debut at the upcoming IAA 2025 show in Munich.

Ultra-compact, measuring 500 mm in length and 550 in width

.

Horse C15 is a new powertrain that simplifies the conversion of all-electric vehicles into extended range electrics. It has ultra-compact dimensions, as it is no bigger than a briefcase and in the basic aspirated version measures 500 millimetres in length, 550 mm in width and 275 millimetres in total depth. Truly a cube that can be used anywhere.

It can be installed in different variants

.

The new C15 uses a 1,500 cc four-cylinder engine plus a generator, inverter and cooling system. It can be installed horizontally or vertically and its ultra-small dimensions could, with minimal modifications and very little cost, potentially fit in the front boot of all electric cars on the market today.

Complies with the Euro 7 standard, but not only

.

At Horse they claim that the C15 is designed to meet the Euro 7 standard and offers 95 hp in the aspirated version aimed at B and C segment cars. For larger cars, however, a turbocharged version offering up to 163 hp is available. Horse also stated that the engine is capable of running on petrol, ethanol and methanol as well as synthetic fuels.

A simple but also cheaper solution

.

Extended-range electric vehicles are a fast-growing category in many markets. The extended range solution offered by the Horse C15 allows the adaptation of native BEV platforms into REEV vehicles.
