Hungary passes first law repealing Orbán’s anti-LGBTQ+ legislation
A change of course under Prime Minister Magyar: a large majority in Parliament repeals the 2021 measure
Hungarian MPs have voted in favour of removing anti-LGBTQ+ provisions contained in a 2021 ‘Child Protection’ Act, passed under the leadership of former nationalist leader Viktor Orbán. Parliament approved the measure with 139 votes in favour and 51 against, marking the first significant U-turn on the restrictions imposed by Orbán on the LGBTQ+ community since the pro-European Prime Minister Peter Magyar took officepost in May.
