Electric, hybrid and hydrogen. Hyundai's eco-sustainable strategy passes through these three powertrains without giving up thermal engines as long as it can. The Korean manufacturer has immediately responded to a drop in sales of 100% battery-powered models with a relaunch of its hybrid offering, which will increase from 7 to 14 models by 2025, reaching sales of 1.33 million hybrid vehicles a year by 2028. And it will not fail to complete the Ioniq family of electric models by the end of the year with the five-metre-long, seven-seater flagship 9 with a super-spacious interior.
Despite the focus on the hybrid, the brand will continue to invest in electrics, planning to launch 21 battery models by the end of the decade for expected sales of 2 million units per year by 2030, when demand is expected to pick up.
Hyundai is also committed to hydrogen fuel cell technology. For example with the Initium FCEV concept, heir to the Nexo, it anticipates the future range to go on sale in the first half of 2025. The appearance is that of a muscular car with the peculiarity of a triangular third side light and a strongly sloping tailgate. The wheels are 21 inches and the roof rack will be standard.
But the big news arriving for early 2025 is Inster, the compact but not overly compact crossover with modern styling and an electric-only powertrain with a range of over 350 km ideal for extended urban use, as well as well structured for off-road trips. Comfortable and spacious, the new Inster can be recharged quickly: immediately available in two different battery variants of 42 or 49 kWh, it can also be recharged from the fastest charging stations, which guarantee a 10 to 80 per cent energy recovery in just thirty minutes.
