Ied's urban campsite makes its debut at the Ex Slaughterhouse
This year - for the third edition - 300 young people will benefit from the Glitch Camp organised by the institute
by Gi.M.
Third edition for 'The Glitch Camp', the free urban camp for students from all over the world in Milan during Design Week, promoted by Fondazione Francesco Morelli and IED and for the first time in the Ex Macello di Porta Vittoria.
The urban campsite
The Fondazione Francesco Morelli, a non-profit organisation that owns the IED Group, and the Istituto Europeo di Design, a non-profit organisation, are contributing with The Glitch Camp project to make Design Week and the entire cultural heritage of the Salone del Mobile accessible to as many young people as possible, promoting design as a tool for growth, encounters and opportunities. For the 2026 edition, up to 300 'glitchers', the campers, will be able to experience urban camping.
The Glitch Camp is made possible thanks to the contribution of Fondazione Cariplo, which for years has been committed to promoting social cohesion and territorial development, and is hosted for the first time in the Ex Macello di Porta Vittoria by Near Sgr, active in urban regeneration and the creation of new forms of sustainable and inclusive living, including the Ex Macello, a post-industrial space now at the centre of an urban regeneration project¬ that will host the new IED Campus.
As main sponsor, Ikea will furnish the camp spaces to make them functional and welcoming, creating common areas designed to encourage exchange and conviviality. In addition to responding to the primary need of hospitality, the Camp is an opportunity for exchange and conviviality.
Emergency Housing Solutions
IED is also taking part in the Interni Materiae exhibition with Vivo, a temporary housing solution following natural disasters and emergencies of various kinds, a resilience space designed to be quickly set up in Italian gyms - within 48 hours - and thus offer a concrete response to alleviate the discomfort of those forced into a temporary shelter situation at the same time as dozens of other people.
