Il Sole 24 Ore presents “Santa Margherita Talks – Summer Edition”
From 20 June, three discussions on culture, current affairs and wellbeing with the Group’s journalists
Santa Margherita Ligure is preparing to host a new cultural series dedicated to discussion and in-depth analysis of the major issues of our time. On Saturday 20 June at 9.00 pm, in Piazza Caprera, “Santa Margherita Talks – Summer Edition” will get underway. “Dialogues on culture, finance and current affairs”, a series of events organised by Il Sole 24 Ore in collaboration with the Municipality of Santa Margherita Ligure, Team for Santa and the Santa Margherita Ligure and Portofino Hoteliers’ Association. The event is sponsored by the Liguria Region.
The initiative was launched with the aim of enriching the city’s summer cultural programme through a series of events dedicated to reflection, discussion and high-quality dissemination, offering the public opportunities for dialogue and reflection through the contributions of leading figures from the Italian cultural, scientific and journalistic spheres. “At a time when public opinion is sinking ever more dramatically into the toxic ecosystem of social media, – explains the Mayor of Santa Margherita Ligure Guglielmo Caversazio – restoring public squares to their role as spaces for discussion, debate and the dissemination of ideas and culture is a service rendered to the country’s civic fabric. Piazza Caprera, by virtue of its history and layout, is one of the public squares on our Riviera best suited to fulfilling this mission, and it is with great pleasure that we are making it available to *Il Sole 24 Ore* for a new format that will bring three major events to the town. I would like to thank Team For Santa and the Hoteliers’ Association for their logistical support in organising this first, prestigious series of “Santa Margherita Talks”.
With Santa Margherita Talks – Summer Edition, this fusion of culture, public engagement and current affairs will offer residents and visitors a programme of events designed to encourage participation in discussions on issues of great relevance to contemporary society.
The series will consist of three events, each of which will be dedicated to a different thematic area, with the aim of offering the public authoritative perspectives and tools for contemporary interpretation. The first event, scheduled for 20 June, will focus on the themes of health, wellbeing and self-awareness; the second, on 25 July, will address the themes of geopolitics with the presentation of Emanuele Parsi’s book Against Empires. The Future of Our Democracies in the New World Order, moderated by Daniele Bellasio, deputy editor of *Il Sole 24 Ore*; the third event, on 4 September, will instead be dedicated to the languages and perspectives of contemporary art.
The event will open on 20 June with an official welcome address by Guglielmo Caversazio, Mayor of Santa Margherita Ligure. The opening night will be moderated by Anna Marino, a journalist with Il Sole 24 Ore – Radiocor.
